FRIDAY MARCH 31, 2017
The cemeteries are open. If you choose to visit, please exercise caution as you walk and do not touch the monuments. We are concerned for your personal safety as well as for the stability of monuments that, although they are upright, have sustained damage and are in a fragile state.
During March the Stone Rd cemetery sustained significant damage from the windstorm. Nine (9) large trees were completely uprooted and fell to the ground. The fallen trees have been removed from the cemetery, however the ground remains soft and the pavement was damaged. Please respect the tape barriers and do not attempt to move or lift any monuments or branches.
Britton Rd is in much better condition however branches cracked during the storm may still fall to the ground.
Thank you for your concern and support.
Britton Road Association, Inc. condemns the recent acts of vandalism at the Waad Hakolel Cemetery, also known as the Stonewood or Stone Road Cemetery in Rochester, NY. We are working with local and state law enforcement as they investigate and hope that those responsible for this crime are brought to justice and are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
We cannot begin to thank the thousands of people who have expressed their outrage at this senseless and hurtful act. The moral and financial support received demonstrates that good will prevail, the cemetery will be repaired, and our spirits will rise again.
Repair and restoration of the cemetery will begin this spring as conditions permit. We appreciate the many people who have volunteered to help right the stones, however resetting monuments is best left to skilled professionals who specialize in the installation and repair of monuments. Thank you to everyone who has donated money to help pay for the upcoming repair work.
We encourage you to check our website for updates and to use the form on the Donate/Contact page to ask questions or make a contribution to our repair fund.
Thank you again for your interest and support.
